GLVWG Writes Stuff

I can’t believe it is March already.  I realize February is a short month, but it really shot by this year.

First things first.  What is this GLVWG Writes Stuff thing?  Well, that is an excellent question.

GLVWG Writes Stuff is the name of the Anthology put together by the Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group.  It contains stories and essays contributed by the members.  As I’m a member, I contributed both.  So did about 30 other members of the group.

The title was submitted by John Evans and is derived by the annual writer’s conference that GLVWG puts together which is called The Write Stuff.  As the book will be available at the conference the named seemed appropriate.

After the title was selected, a cover needed to be designed. Again, the members submitted cover art and ideas, and here is the one selected by the committee.

BookCoverPreview A yelloblurb from CSInside, I get credit for the cover, but in truth it was a group effort. I came up with the general layout and the idea to use the quill (which you might notice from this website).  Bart Palamaro got the color right and Rebecca Bartlett put together the back blurb.

Actually, they did so much more than that.

Bart handled all of the formatting for the book and the cover, and did a fantastic job.  At The Write Stuff conference Bart will be conducting a hands-on workshop entitled “Self-Pub: Formatting a Commercial Quality POD Book in CreateSpace.”

Becky was the person responsible for putting together the anthology. Without her efforts there wouldn’t have been a book, and a lot of great stories might have never been written. She will also be a presenter at The Write Stuff conference.  Her session is titled, “Create Credible Characters with Voice, Dialogue, and Point of View.”

My own story, Support Hell, was something that I did just for the anthology.  It was a spur of the moment decision,  but I had a great time writing it. I’m looking forward to continuing Bob’s story of demonic troubleshooting once The Shaper series is wrapped up.

I mentioned  The Write Stuff conference several times.   It will be my first writer’s conference, and I’m thrilled to be going.  There are tons of sessions covering a huge range of topics. I had a tough time deciding which ones I wanted to attend.  My final list is looking something like this (although I reserve the right to change my mind at the last minute).

  • Thursday – Kristen Lamb – The Novelist of the 21st Century
  • Friday – Chris Richards – Traditional Publishing, The Team.
  • Friday – Kristen Lamb – Branding and Social Media
  • Friday -Richard White -Writer Beware
  • Saturday – Rebecca Bartlett – Create Credible Characters
  • Saturday – Michael Jan Friedman – Genesis of a Science Fiction Story
  • Saturday – Grabriela Pereira: Creating a Stronger Outline
  • Saturday – Donna Galanti – Creating the Foundations of World Building
  • Saturday – Steven H. Wilson – Character Development as World-Building

I’m going to be there the entire time, and while I’m looking forward to some awesome sessions, I’m even more excited for the opportunity to hang out with other authors.
